Modernism is considered to be a philosophical movement which led to a lot of changes in the Western society in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Modernism rejected the thinking Enlightenment encouraged along with the religious beliefs. The artists of this movement used new imagery, techniques and materials to create artworks that reflected the hopes and realities of modern world in a better way. It rejected history and conservative values. Moreover, modernism created artworks that were also inspired by various political and social agendas. This is how it took realism a step further. Realism produced artworks that involved daily life of people but did not have any agenda but modernism was inspired by agendas.
